Merit Scholarships for United Methodist Seminarians
Deadline - April 1st
Scholarships are awarded each year to seminary students showing exceptional promise or achievement in preparation for ordained ministry in the United Methodist Church. In previous years, over $100,000 has been available for distribution. Scholarship amounts are dependent upon the number of applicants and funds available. Applications are due by April 1st and applicants are notifed of decisions in May.
- Applicants must be certified candidates for ministry in the United Methodist church at the time scholarships are distributed.
- Applicants must be enrolled or intend to enroll during the coming academic year in a seminary accredited by the United Methodist Church University Senate and/or in Kairos.
- Applicants must state intent to serve in the Dakotas Annual Conference for a minimum of five (5) years following receipt of this scholarship. If recipient cannot fulfill this requirement, he/she promises to repay the full amount of the scholarship over a ten (10) year period.
Preference will be given to candidates who have an established connection to the Dakotas Conference or who can demonstrate the intent to establish such a connection.
Excellence in Clergy Leadership Scholarship
Deadline - March 7th
We are partnering with GBHEM along with Seminaries – including Sioux Falls Seminary with the Excellence in Clergy Leadership Scholarship. This scholarship was created to help United Methodist clergy avoid excessive educational loan debt, minimize financial stress and build financial acumen. For more information and to apply for the Excellence in Clergy Leadership Scholarship use the GBHEM general application before March 7th.

Scholarships for Undergrad Students
Dollars for Scholars
The Dakotas United Methodist Foundation has joined the Dollars for Scholars program with the United Metodist Higher Education Foundation (UMHEF) to provide scholarship aid for United Methodist students from the Dakotas who attend United Methodist-related schools, colleges, universities and seminaries in the United States. Under the program, UMHEF will provide a $1,000 matching scholarship when the student’s local church raises $1,000 to assist them in attending a UM-related school. In addition, the UM school and the Dakotas United Methodist Foundation also will provide matching $1,000 scholarships, for a total award of $4,000.
